Nearly a third of the world's food is lost to pests and disease every year. Most of that loss hits smallholder farmers hardest — often because the expert advice arrives days too late. We're changing that.
Our story
Why we founded CropGuard
CropGuard started on a tomato farm in Kiambu, Kenya, when our co-founder — then a plant pathologist — watched a farmer lose a full season of work to late blight. The disease had been visible for days, but the nearest agronomist was a two-hour drive away.
We asked a simple question: what if the diagnosis could travel to the farm instead of the farmer traveling to the diagnosis? By combining computer vision with trusted agronomic expertise, we built a tool that puts a specialist in every farmer's pocket.
Today CropGuard runs on secure, enterprise-grade AI trained on more than 500,000 crop images, in the local languages farmers actually speak. Our goal for the next decade: cut preventable crop loss in half across the Global South.
